Dear Parents and Athletes

Hello....Welcome to the "Miller Minutes"- The blog for Legend Track and Cross Country

Please take a minute to keep reading on 3 big ideas that we have going on in the next few day or weeks


We have kicked off one of our big fundraisers for Cross Country!  

We will be using GoFundMe this season instead of Snapraise! because we will receive a higher percentage of the donations from them.  While we get more of the actual donations, it is challenging to get the word out!  

This is where you come in!

If you could (or encourage your runner to do it!!), please send out this link to as many people as you can.  You can post it on FB, Twitter, it can be texted or emailed! It helps to have this link sent to at least 10 numbers or emails, but there is no limit.  Often family and friends would love to support your child, but they don't know how...


Number 2"   We have opened up the spirit pack website until Thursday Aug 31st Midnight. I encourage you to consider the long sleeve t shirt or other items that you want to support the team. Parents also can pick an item or two. We will order on Friday! We (The TEAM) will order a team shirt this week for everyone on the team also
This additional shirt will be ordered by us not on the link. The link to the spirit pack can be found on our website until the deadline

Number 3: Please take time to look at the Centaurus meet page from our website. Parking on Saturday will be tight. We have had the runners tell us if they are riding the bus both ways, one way or not at all. This helps us with planning. We do want the kids to be at the course by 9am. The course is about an hour away at Waneka Lake. 
All of the meet info is on the Centaurus meet website found from our CC page. Our bus will leave Legend at 6:30am and return around 1-1:30pm

Opps....#4......Please have kids always tell us if they plan to miss practice. We do expect participation in practice everyday. We know things come up, but they do have a way to communicate with us on the Remind app. We can only get better from practice....as a team. We value the communication and that goes both ways. 

Opps #5....sorry....TEAM DINNERS: We have sent out info via REMIND on the first team dinner at the Rast House. This will be at 5:30 on Thursday 8/31. The address has been sent out, and will be resent again to the team. If you need more, please email me. This is not a required event, but everyone is invited. Team dinners are fun for the kids. It is for the kids to hang out and just be a team. I do encourage you to drop them off or carpool so there won't be 30 cars in the neighborhood...

How can you help WE>ME

Yes it is true.
The team performs better by being a TEAM and not just a group of individuals. To maintain our culture, routines, as well as participating in the types of events that make us unique, we need a working foundation. That foundation cost us our funds.....to maintain and grow our TEAM

Expenses like entry fee's   about $150 per week
Uniforms ranging from year to year but also to replace old out of date uniforms
Warmups...?
Transportation...The district does help for part of this
Equipment....varies. This supports our pancake run and when we need to host an event
Titan gear like bags and warmups or swag...which is currently supported by spirit sales
.....Most of all Trips or special events....AND an awards dinner or ceremony at the end of the season.
Sometimes this money will help a runner in need for trips or participation and sometimes we can pay extra coaches or volunteers.

This all takes it toll on our budget. The only money we get is $100 of the $185 required.
Each year we have a fundraising month to help support this effort. In the past we have used Snapraise which only allows us to keep 70% of the donations. We are switching to Go Fund Me. which has a greater percentage of donations kept for the team.

In order for this to actually result in more funds...WE NEED ALL OF YOUR HELP

We ask you to email 10 or more real names or text the link to them. These need to be real possible donations. Friends, family and maybe even community members or businesses. Remember the doctor and dentist, ect....or a small business owner. Don't just make it up. Remember to have value to the TEAM we all need to make an effort. We will reward our top 3 earners with some spirit gear items of their choice. If we truly value the team, please help us out to show that WE>ME

For those of you that want your donations to help with your trip to Kansas or possibly ARIZONA then send as many as you can. For those that did not like snapraise...here is your chance to make more money for our team!

Hello Team XC 2017.....Take a few minutes to read what's up this week and see some older posts! These can be very helpful in planning and thinking of YOUR training to help yourself and the TEAM

This week: Everyone Runs!!! (unless we have talked about schedules or injuries)

For SATURDAY....See the website under schedule and results for the Centaurus webpage for meet info....Meet at Legend at 6:15-6:20 am. The bus will depart at 6:30am sharp! Don't leave your uniform or bag in the locker room....be ready to get on the bus.

What is Tempo Pace?  What is Swing Tempo?

Tempo pace is really the idea of "running by feel"....not pushing the watch. You should feel the slight push to a faster uncomfortable pace- about 80%....not all out racing. It's in between recovery pace and moving towards racing...but not quite that fast. If you average 7 mins a mile ...Tempo pace will be about...7:35 per mile.....It takes some practice to maintain the tempo pace.....Tempo helps with your breathing over a longer distance and prepares you for efficient racing....Keep experimenting until you have it down. If you use a watch....you can predict your tempo pace from your race pace

Swing tempo-- is just a tad bit slower.....as a progression towards tempo pace

RACE DAY: Take ownership of race day....Think of how you will attack each part of the race. Visualize each mile. Get your team together and warmup before....about 45 mins before. Start with an easy 1-2 mile jog....then our dynamic warmups....then a good 2-5 mins of race pace running....then shoes on an go to the line. Don't stand around......make it a team routine

Cooldown: Get in 1-2 miles easy to cheer on the next race!

Scoring:  It takes 5 to score and the others to "play defense"   Example for last week....

Let us know if you are feeling injuries so we can see Piper.....don't let them get worse
Keep your grades up......we will be checking

The cost will be approx $ 300.00  but we will offer fundraising!!
